When the next pour occurs, a construction joint is formed. If this joint is located below the groundwater level, it can easily lead to water leakage. To prevent this, technical treatments are necessary. One of the most commonly used methods is the installation of a waterstop steel plate.
This involves embedding a 300×3 mm steel plate during the first concrete pour. Approximately 10–15 cm of the steel plate remains exposed above the surface. During the second pour, the exposed part is poured together with the new concrete, creating a continuous barrier that prevents water from seeping through under pressure. The thickness of these steel plates is typically 2 mm or 3 mm. They are generally made from cold-rolled steel because it ensures a more uniform thickness compared to hot-rolled steel.
The standard length of the steel plates is usually 3 meters or 6 meters, with 3 meters being more convenient for transportation. However, the welding points on the steel plates must be carefully handled to avoid any leakage, as even a small gap can compromise the waterproofing performance. Waterstop steel plates are widely used in construction projects and come in various forms depending on the production equipment used.
