Proper installation of bearings plays a crucial role in determining their accuracy, lifespan, and overall performance. 3. **Installation Procedure**: Follow the correct method for installing the bearing, ensuring that all steps are carried out according to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. **Preparation Before Installation**: Before installing the bearing, make sure the packaging is opened properly. For grease-lubricated bearings, it is usually not necessary to clean them unless specified. However, for high-precision or high-speed bearings, cleaning with clean oil may be required to remove any rust-preventive coatings. Bearings sealed with grease should be used directly without removing the seal.
5. **Lubrication**: Apply a suitable lubricant before installation. Grease is commonly used, but if the bearing is not clean, it should be cleaned before filling with new grease. Oil-lubricated bearings typically do not require removal unless special conditions apply.
When installing bearings, the method depends on the bearing type, fit, and operating conditions. Most often, the inner ring requires an interference fit, especially when the shaft rotates. Cylindrical bore bearings are usually installed using presses or hot mounting methods. Tapered bore bearings can be mounted directly on tapered shafts or with the help of sleeves. When installing the outer ring, it is common to use clearance fit, but sometimes an interference fit is also applied. In such cases, pressing or cold shrinkage methods (using dry ice as a coolant) can be used. However, care must be taken to prevent moisture from condensing on the bearing surface, so proper anti-rust measures should be applied.
Regular inspection and replacement of bearings require disassembly. When removing bearings, it is important to avoid damaging the shaft or housing. Care should be taken to ensure that only the raceway is pulled, and not the rolling elements. Proper tools and techniques should be used to minimize the risk of damage.
