The reverse construction method for basement pipe jacking is closely related to the deep foundation pit support techniques used in pipe jacking projects. Compared to traditional support and construction methods, the reverse construction approach offers significant advantages, including:

With the increasing application of reverse construction technology, China has incorporated relevant provisions into the new National Standard for the Basic Design Code of Building Construction, as well as industry standards issued by the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. These provisions are also included in the Technical Code for Building Foundation Pit Engineering. Although the content related to reverse construction in these codes is limited, it reflects growing recognition of this technique.
Over the past two decades, despite its high safety and time-saving benefits, the reverse construction method faces challenges such as complex technical integration, difficult underground work, and high costs. Additionally, there is a lack of domestic normative documents that provide guidance and practical operational support for this technique. As a result, many applications lack clear direction and purpose, leading to inefficiencies in both design and construction. This lack of standardization contributes to unnecessary waste and hinders further development and promotion of the technology.
