When you unpack the boxes containing the cables and components for your HAAS AXIS Stainless Cable Railing System, the first thing you should do is start the pre-cutting process.

Step 1: Assign Cable Runs

The very first step when preparing to cut your cables for the AXIS System is to assign each cable run a unique number. This will help keep everything organized during the cutting process.

Step 2: Measure Cable Cuts

After all your cable runs have been numbered, begin by taking measurements between your termination posts for each run.

If your measurement is six inches or more past a full foot, round up to the next whole foot. If it’s less than six inches, round down. For instance, if your cable run measures 10’ 3”, your pre-cut length will be 10’. But if it’s 10’ 7”, the pre-cut length will be 11’.

Step 3: Pre-Cut Your Cables

Once you’ve measured and noted all the pre-cut lengths for your cable runs, it’s time to actually cut them.

To begin, secure your cable reel so it can easily free spool as you pull out each length. Extend a measuring tape so its zero mark is around five feet from the reel. For this demonstration, we’ll use a 100’ measuring tape and a simple yard stake to hold the reel steady while allowing it to freely spool.

With the measuring tape laid out and the reel secured, refer to your pre-cut list and start with the first cable run. Let’s say this particular run needs ten rows of cable, each seven feet long.

Using your Tyler Tool Cable Cutter, walk the cable end down to the 70’ mark. As you walk back toward the reel, make cuts every seven feet.

Once all the rows for this run are pre-cut, bundle the cables together with masking tape and label them with their corresponding cable number. Repeat this process for all other cable runs until every cable for your system is pre-cut.
