Causes and maintenance of mildew in aluminum alloy products

Reasons for Mildew in Aluminum Alloy Products:

1. The storage environment of aluminum alloy products plays a significant role in mold growth. High temperature and humidity create ideal conditions for mold to thrive.

2. Contaminants such as foreign materials or residues on the surface of the aluminum alloy can absorb moisture from the air, triggering a corrosive reaction known as a primary battery. This creates a favorable environment for mold development.

3. Corrosion caused by the primary battery reaction leads to the formation of alkaline compounds on the surface. When these compounds deliquesce (absorb moisture), they create a moist environment that promotes rapid mold growth.

4. Oil, plant fibers, or other organic residues on the surface of the aluminum alloy can also serve as a food source for mold. Once the temperature and humidity reach suitable levels, mold spreads quickly.

Control Methods:

1. Use refining agents containing sodium or magnesium salts, such as NaF, or employ nitrogen gas for purification to reduce impurities that may contribute to corrosion and mold.

2. Avoid using release agents or cutting fluids that contain plant fibers or organic matter. Replace oil-based anti-rust cutting fluids with more stable alternatives to minimize contamination risks.

3. Do not store aluminum alloy products outdoors for extended periods. Dust accumulation on the product surface can worsen the problem and make it more prone to mold.

4. When packaging aluminum alloy products, ensure that the cartons are wrapped with plastic film to protect them from water exposure. If the product gets wet, allow it to dry thoroughly in the air before further handling or storage.
