Four reasons for burning the circuit breaker opening coil

Dongguan Yinyin Hardware Products Co., Ltd. is a comprehensive enterprise that integrates production, service, sales, and after-sales support. We welcome all buyers to negotiate and collaborate with us! As a professional manufacturer of silver contacts, in-mold riveting parts, stamping components, and low-voltage switches (such as wall switches and leakage protection switches), we are dedicated to "safe electricity, safe switches, and safe electricians." Thank you for your attention and trust! Our commitment is to provide the most complete and reliable power safety solutions for our customers. A circuit breaker is a type of load switch that offers both short-circuit and overload protection. Its short-circuit protection function is typically achieved through an electromagnetic coil. Due to its excellent protection performance, ease of maintenance, and convenient use, circuit breakers are widely used in power systems. There are four main reasons why a circuit breaker’s coil may burn out: 1. **Mechanical failure in the tripping mechanism**: If the coil becomes loose, the electromagnet core may shift during opening, causing the iron core to get stuck. This can lead to overheating and burning of the coil. Additionally, if the stroke of the iron core is too short, the tripping mechanism might not fully engage when the circuit is opened, resulting in prolonged energization and damage. 2. **Improper adjustment of stroke and auxiliary switch contacts**: During parameter adjustments, if the initial position of the circuit breaker’s opening is changed but the auxiliary switch is not properly adjusted, it can prevent the opening circuit from switching correctly, leading to coil burnout. 3. **Failure of the protection control device**: The opening command is usually issued by the protection control system. If the opening relay fails or the auxiliary control switch has excessive resistance, the opening command may not be released in time, causing the coil to remain energized and eventually burn out. 4. **High resistance in the opening circuit**: Reduced insulation or excessively low resistance in the control circuit can cause a significant voltage drop, preventing the coil from reaching its required operating voltage. This results in the coil being energized for too long, leading to overheating and failure. To prevent coil burnout, the following measures can be taken: - Replace the delay-closing contact in the opening circuit with a pair of moving contacts, and regularly check the contact points and arm screws of the auxiliary switch to ensure proper alignment and cooperation between the auxiliary switch and the circuit breaker. - Adjust the opening command timing appropriately so that the coil is activated just enough to perform its function without remaining energized for too long. - Regularly maintain and inspect the protection control devices to ensure they operate correctly and respond promptly to opening commands.
