Decoration does a good job of three projects to avoid cutting corners

Part 1: Construction Has Its Tricks

Home decoration is a crucial part of any interior design project. If walls are not properly handled during the process, it can lead to long-term regrets. Unfortunately, cutting corners is quite common in wall decoration, which makes it even more important for homeowners to stay attentive and avoid future disappointments. Regret 1: Poor Paint Application Latex paint is one of the most commonly used materials for wall decoration. It can be applied through brushing, rolling, or spraying. However, if workers are careless or not professional, small color variations may occur, especially with darker shades of emulsion paints. These issues can make the final result look unprofessional and uneven. To prevent this, it's essential to mix latex paint with a certain amount of fresh water before use and ensure that it's fully consumed once mixed. Also, try to complete the painting of the same color in one go. If repairs are needed later, repainting the entire wall is often the best solution to maintain consistency. Regret 2: Tiles Not Properly Attached Another common mistake is poor adhesion when laying tiles. This is often due to lazy workmanship, such as leaving gaps between tiles, missing grout lines, or using incorrect ratios of cement and adhesive. These mistakes can lead to tiles falling off over time, causing unnecessary costs and inconvenience. According to the "Quality Acceptance Criteria for Family Room Decoration Projects" issued by the Beijing Municipal Construction Committee, walls and floors should be flat, firmly attached, with clear patterns, no dirt or grout marks, and consistent colors. The joints should be even, and there should be no cracks, chipped edges, or loose tiles. Local voids should not exceed 5% of the total area. Regret 3: Improper Wall Grooving Before installing hidden pipes, grooves must be made on walls and floors. Some workers, however, may perform this task carelessly, damaging the building’s load-bearing structure or nearby pipelines. This is another example of cutting corners that can cause serious problems down the line. To avoid this, it's important to confirm the pipeline layout with the construction team before starting work. Different wall structures have different requirements. For instance, load-bearing walls should not be cut into, and walls with insulation layers may crack if grooves are made improperly. On the floor, extra caution is needed to prevent damage to the flooring and potential issues for those living below. Regret 4: Poor Joint Finishing In areas where walls meet doors and windows, or where two different paint colors meet, workers often neglect the details. This can result in messy paint mixing at the seams, leading to an unattractive finish. To handle this properly, it's crucial to supervise the process closely. When applying two different paint colors, use masking tape along the edge of the first color before painting the second. After removing the tape, the joint should appear neat and clean.
