Drunk flower pot planting and maintenance method

Drunk Butterfly Potting and Care Guide:

When transplanting seedlings, it's best to do so when they have 2-3 true leaves, ideally in June. Transplanting straight-rooted plants with small roots can be challenging, as they may struggle to recover. It's usually recommended to transplant them in the open field during spring or when the seedlings reach about 5 cm in height. Choose fertile soil for planting, and generally, no fertilizer is needed unless you want to apply it once every two weeks during the growing season. Keep water and fertilizer under control to prevent excessive growth that might affect flowering.

During the flower bud formation and blooming period, applying fertilizer 2-3 times can help extend the flowering time. Watering should be done to keep the soil slightly moist, not overly wet. Avoid constant watering unless there's a drought. When flowers are in bloom, use stakes to support the plant and prevent it from falling over. If the plant isn’t going to be used for seeds, remove the spent flowers promptly to reduce nutrient consumption and prolong the blooming period.

The entire plant has sticky hairs, which means it requires less water. Except for increased watering during the flowering stage, seedlings can be watered sparingly, making them easier to manage. In summer, water at least once a day, and if temperatures are high and dry, move the pot to a cooler area and water after the container cools slightly. In autumn and winter, reduce watering and only water the surface of the soil when it feels dry.

Cleome prefers warm temperatures, with an ideal growth range between 20°C and 32°C. It thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade. To keep the plant compact, ensure it receives at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily. When planting in flower beds, regularly remove spent blooms to prevent seed formation and extend the flowering period.

For potted Cleome, pinch back the top buds when the plant is young and limit nitrogen fertilizer to encourage a shorter, bushier growth. For cut flowers, plant them slightly closer together and remove lateral buds to promote the development of the main flower. If you want Cleome to bloom around the Spring Festival, plant it in autumn and bring it indoors before winter. Maintain a temperature of around 20°C, keep the soil slightly moist, and apply 2-3 doses of liquid fertilizer during the bud stage to ensure a beautiful bloom by the holiday.

Pests such as leaf spot and rust can occur. For leaf spot, use a 50% Tolkin WP solution diluted 500 times. For rust, spray a 50% Rust-Free WP solution diluted 3000 times. Regular monitoring and timely treatment will help keep your Cleome healthy and vibrant throughout the growing season.
