Drunk flower pot planting and maintenance method

Drunk Butterfly Potting and Care Guide:

When transplanting seedlings, it's best to do so when they have 2-3 true leaves. Transplanting or potting should be done in June, as straight-rooted plants with small roots can struggle to recover after transplanting. It’s usually recommended to transplant in the open field during spring, or when the seedling reaches about 5 cm in height. Choose fertile soil for planting, and generally no fertilizer is needed. During the growing season, apply a balanced fertilizer every two weeks. However, keep water and fertilizer under control to avoid excessive growth that may affect flowering. During the bud formation and blooming period, fertilize 2-3 times to extend the flowering duration.

Watering should be moderate, keeping the soil slightly moist but not overly wet. Avoid overwatering, especially during dry periods. When the plant is in bloom, support it with stakes to prevent it from falling over. After the flowers fade, remove the spent blooms promptly to prevent seed production, which reduces nutrient consumption and helps prolong the flowering period. The entire plant has sticky hairs, which means it uses less water. In the seedling stage, you can water sparingly, making it easier to manage. In summer, water at least once daily, and if there's high heat and drought, move the plant to a cooler spot before watering once the pot cools down slightly. In autumn and winter, reduce watering and only water when the top of the soil dries out.

Light and Temperature: Cleome thrives in warm conditions and is heat-tolerant, with an ideal growth temperature between 20°C and 32°C. It prefers bright light and can grow in partial shade, but for a more compact, dwarf appearance, it should receive direct sunlight for at least 4 hours a day. When planting in flower beds, remove spent flowers promptly to avoid seed development and extend the blooming period.

For potted plants, pinch back the top buds at the seedling stage and limit nitrogen fertilizer to encourage a shorter, bushier growth. For cut flowers, plant them slightly closer together and remove lateral buds to promote the growth of the main flower. If you want Cleome to bloom around the Spring Festival, plant it in autumn and bring it indoors into a sunny location before winter. Maintain an indoor temperature around 20°C, keep the soil slightly moist, and apply a liquid compound fertilizer 2-3 times during the bud stage to ensure blooms by the holiday.

Pests and diseases are common, including leaf spot and rust. To treat leaf spot, use a 50% Tolkin WP solution diluted 500 times. For rust, spray with a 50% Rust-Free WP solution diluted 3000 times.
