The manufacturing process of a vise involves several precise steps. First, high-quality steel is forged to ensure durability. Next, the parts are formed using a milling machine, where teeth, round edges, and rear teeth are carefully machined. Fine scraping ensures the surfaces are smooth and meet exact size specifications.
Once the components are shaped, they are matched together, and the bevel angle is adjusted using a milling machine. The cutting edge is then sharpened, and the parts are pressure-riveted. A fitter may adjust the position of the cutting edge, while a grinding process flattens the wheel and refines the profile and neck area. The head is then shot-peened to improve its strength and flexibility.
Next, the entire tool undergoes a blackening process to enhance its appearance and resistance to wear. Both sides are fine-ground for precision. The cutting edge is then subjected to high-frequency heat treatment to increase hardness, reaching a Rockwell hardness of HRC 48–50. Afterward, the tool is polished to a smooth finish and oiled before packaging.
A vise has multiple functions depending on its design. The toothed mouth can be used to tighten or loosen nuts. The knife edge is suitable for cutting soft insulation materials like rubber or plastic, as well as for cutting wires. The shear mouth is ideal for cutting harder metal wires such as steel or copper. Additionally, the insulated plastic handle can withstand voltages of 500V or higher, allowing safe use when cutting live wires.
