Working principle and maintenance measures of electrostatic spray gun

Electrostatic spray guns operate based on the principle of electrostatic attraction and repulsion. In this system, the object to be painted acts as the anode and is grounded, while the paint atomizer or electric grid serves as the cathode. A high-voltage electrostatic field is created between these two electrodes, leading to corona discharge at the cathode. This discharge charges the paint particles, causing them to become highly ionized and further atomized. Due to the electrostatic forces, the charged particles are drawn toward the object being coated along the lines of the electric field, ensuring even coverage, including the backside of the object.

Maintaining an electrostatic spray gun is essential for both performance and safety. Regular checks should be performed on the resistance of the spray gun, power supply, and related components to ensure they are functioning properly and free from leaks. Seals must be inspected for damage or wear, and any faulty parts should be replaced promptly. To maintain optimal spray quality, it's important to regularly test key parameters such as voltage, flow rate, atomization effect, and spray pattern. A specialized instrument can be used to measure the voltage and confirm it meets the required standards. The electrode needle should be in good condition and fully discharged. If any issues arise, the corresponding components should be repaired or replaced. For spray guns equipped with an internal generator, the generator’s performance should be monitored frequently to avoid malfunctions.
