A double flange level gauge is typically used for measuring liquid levels in closed containers. It works by combining a differential pressure transmitter with an intelligent amplification board, creating a smart remote transmission system. This setup allows communication via HART protocol using a handheld communicator for configuration and monitoring.
On the other hand, a single flange level gauge is designed for open tanks where the top of the tank is exposed to the atmosphere. These transmitters are known for their advanced design, ease of installation, and reliability. They measure liquid level based on the principle P = Ïgh, where the differential pressure corresponds directly to the liquid height.
The process connection for most level transmitters is a diaphragm flange type, with silicone oil as the pressure transmission medium. For open tanks, only the high-pressure side connects to the process flange, while the low-pressure side remains open to the atmosphere. In pressure tanks, both high and low sides must be connected to flanges to measure the pressure difference accurately.
To ensure proper installation, end users and design teams often request matching flanges to avoid mismatch issues. When selecting flanges, consider the following factors:
- **Flange Standard**: Common standards include DIN, ANSI, and JIS. In China, DIN and ANSI are widely used.
- **Flange Size**: Typically 2", 3", or 4", with 3" being the most common.
- **Flange Pressure Rating**: For JIS, it's 10K or 20K; for ANSI, 150, 300, or 600; for DIN, PN10/PN16 or PN25/PN40.
- **Flange Type**: Flat welding for pressures below 40 barg, and neck butt welding for higher pressures.
- **Material**: Common choices are carbon steel, SUS304, and SUS316. The material should match the tank’s construction.
- **Flush Ring (Optional)**: Helps clean solid deposits from the flange without removing the transmitter, ensuring accurate readings.

- GB/T 9115.1-2000: Flat, raised face weld neck steel pipe flange
- GB/T 9116.1-2000: Flat, raised face socket weld steel pipe flange
- GB/T 9117.1-2000: Raised face, weld neck steel pipe flange
- GB/T 9119-2000: Flat, raised face flat weld steel pipe flange
