In a recent environmental protection work meeting held in Shunde District, it was revealed that the number of environmental complaints has been on the rise year by year, ranking second only to land-related issues. Chen Haobin, deputy head of the district and director of the Environmental Transport Bureau, emphasized that Longjiang and Lecong towns should implement special campaigns targeting the pollution emissions from furniture manufacturing enterprises. These efforts aim to strictly regulate and eliminate companies that fail to meet environmental standards.
The discharge of wastewater from the furniture industry will be a key focus of these rectification measures. Special actions will be launched in both towns to address the pollution caused by furniture manufacturers, with a strict ban on any company that does not comply with environmental regulations. At the meeting, Chen Haobin reiterated the importance of this initiative, stating that all illegal activities, such as unauthorized discharges or leaks, must be thoroughly investigated and corrected.
According to the latest information, since the end of March this year, Shunde has begun implementing the Guangdong IV gasoline standard. However, given the local industrial structure, the main challenge lies in controlling the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are a significant contributor to PM 2.5 pollution. The authorities are working to improve air quality by addressing all instances of illegal emissions and ensuring compliance with environmental laws.
As outlined in the Shunde governance plan, VOC pollution is particularly severe in areas with concentrated furniture manufacturing, such as Longjiang and Lecong. Therefore, launching pilot projects for regional VOC remediation and expanding them across the district is crucial. Over the next three years, Shunde plans to promote at least 200 companies to complete cleaner production processes, especially those involved in high-pollution and energy-intensive operations. The district is also actively exploring innovative approaches to ecological system development, aiming to achieve sustainable growth while protecting the environment.
