EU's biodiesel production may be substantially reduced in 2011

Comprehensive media news, the oil-headquarters-based oilseeds analysis agency in Germany - oil world on November 1 said that the EU bio-diesel imports are increasing significantly, but due to the intense supply of external supplies, the EU bio-diesel production in 2011 may be substantially cut back.

Oil World said: "The year-to-date, the EU's bio-diesel imports have been significantly increased, its bio-diesel imports from January to December 2011 or a record 2.52 million tons, an increase of 21% over the same period last year."

"We expect the EU to import 1.4 million tons of biodiesel from Argentina and at least 830,000 tons from Indonesia and Singapore."

In 2010, the EU imported 1.1 million tons of biodiesel from Argentina and 516,000 tons of biodiesel from Indonesia and Singapore.

Oil World said: "Most imported biodiesel has arrived in Italy and Spain."

Oil World expects that the EU bio-diesel production in 2011 is expected to fall to 9.07 million tons, which was 9.54 million tons in the previous year, which was mainly dragged by fierce import competition.

It is expected that Italy's biodiesel production in 2011 will be reduced by 40% from the previous year to 450,000 tons; Spain's biodiesel production in 2011 is expected to decrease 31% from the previous year to 550,000 tons.

Oil World expects that the largest biodiesel producer in Germany - Germany's biodiesel production in 2011 will be reduced from 2.8 million tons to 2.73 million tons; the second largest producer of biodiesel - France's biodiesel production in 2011 may drop to 1.87 million T, the previous year was 1.98 million tons.

It also stated that the utilization rate of biodiesel capacity in the European Union is at a "very low level" that has caused Spanish and Italian producers to seek government support and hopes that they can introduce relevant measures to curb imports.

EU biodiesel producers on Monday promoted investigations into whether imported US biodiesel should receive unfair subsidies.
