Germany Recreates a Renewable Energy Record

According to the "Der Spiegel" weekly report, the German Energy and Water Industry Association stressed that in the first half of 2011, renewable energy already accounted for 20.8% of total electricity production. Throughout the past decade, Germany has fundamentally changed the way it generates electricity. From 2000 to 2010, the share of renewable energy in Germany increased from 5% to 18%. Over time, Germany has already achieved its legislative goals in advance, and it seems ready to implement self-surpassing again next year. Now Angela Merkel's government has set a goal - by 2020, renewable energy will generate at least 35%. The opposition party claimed that reaching 40% or even higher is also realistic and feasible.
