Panasonic to Push New Solar Cell Modules and Outdoor PV Inverters

Panasonic released new products for solar cell modules and power conditioners. The order was placed on June 23, 2014. Panasonic emphasized that the two products are characterized by high conversion efficiency and large annual power generation.

Among them, the solar cell module "HIT 244α" increased the module conversion efficiency from 18.7% of the company's original product to 19%. The maximum output power is 244W (the original product is 240W). According to Matsushita, the conversion efficiency is improved by using a low-reflection glass that reduces the reflection of incident light. The suggested retail price is 135,000 yen (excluding tax).

Panasonic also prepared the solar cell module "HIT 250α" produced by orders. Compared with the company’s existing orders, the module conversion efficiency increased from 19.1% to 19.5%. The maximum output power is 250W (original product is 245W). According to reports, in addition to the HIT 250α implementation improvements in HIT 244α, it also increases the technology that can reduce the resistance loss, thereby improving the conversion efficiency. The suggested retail price is 163,000 yen (excluding tax).

Panasonic's HIT solar cells have excellent temperature characteristics compared to existing crystalline silicon solar cells, and have a small drop in output power at high temperatures. Therefore, the HIT 244α with a maximum output power of 244W has a predicted power generation of 286.9kWh in the year. For a typical crystalline silicon solar cell module to achieve this power generation, a maximum output power of about 262 W is required.

The forecasted power generation for the whole year was calculated by Panasonic according to the “Display of Related Industry Autonomous Rules (2012)” of the Photovoltaic Power Association (JPEA). The setting condition of the module is set at Chaozhen South of Osaka City at an inclination angle of 30 degrees, and the loss of the power conditioner is 5%.

Equipped with SiC diode

The new power regulator "VBPC246B" is an outdoor setting type with a rated output power of 4.6 kW. According to Panasonic, the advantage of the VBPC246B is that it is equipped with four maximum power point tracking (MPPT) circuits compared to other companies with about 4 kW. Compared with 2 or 3 circuits of other company's products, the degree of freedom of the module can be increased. Suggested retail price is 410,000 yen (excluding tax)

The rated power conversion efficiency of the VBPC246B is 96%. In the outdoor setting type of about 4 kW, it ranks among the highest in the industry with the existing products of other companies. In addition to the rated power, the power conversion efficiency is about 96% when the output power is approximately 1 kW. Therefore, the conversion can be performed with high efficiency even in low sunshine conditions such as cloudy days and rain, which contributes to an increase in annual power generation.

In addition, following the outdoor power regulator with a maximum output of 5.9 kW, which was launched in October 2013, SiC diodes are also used in this product.
