The data shows that China's energy-saving doors and windows account for only 0.4%. The loss of energy through doors and windows accounts for 20% of the total energy consumption in society. Doors and windows have become the largest funnel and "black hole" in China's building energy efficiency.

A few days ago, at the 2013 China Energy-Saving Doors and Windows Industry Development Forum held in Gaobeidian, Hebei, experts urged that China should formulate standards for energy-saving doors and windows as soon as possible. At the same time, the government should increase investment to support enterprises to increase scientific research.

Experts pointed out that China’s annual increase of 2.5 billion square meters of buildings exceeds the sum of all developed countries, while the use of energy-saving doors and windows accounts for only 0.4%. The energy consumption of buildings caused by the low penetration rate of energy-saving doors and windows is two to three times that of developed countries. Doors and windows have become the largest “black hole” in China’s building energy efficiency.

The data shows that from the average point of view, the primary energy that generates 1 kWh of cooling air consumption is about 3 times the energy needed for heating. It is estimated that the lack of window and shade insulation means that the energy required for cooling is 5 to 10 times that of heating. “Our country's public buildings and dwellings are accustomed to installing transparent windows. In the present situation where the thermal insulation performance of doors and windows is extremely poor, it will inevitably lead to an increase in coal for winter heating in the vast northern areas.” Ni Shouqiang said that according to statistics, only per capita heating coal is burned in Hebei Province. It will reach about 2 tons. The pollution caused by coal-fired heating has become one of the important sources of smog outbreaks.
