Quenching oil performance and introduction

Quenching oil is a process oil used as a quenching medium.

Quenching oil must have the following characteristics:

Good cooling performance

Cooling performance is an important property of quenching medium. Its quality directly affects the quality of quenched parts. Good cooling performance can ensure that the parts after quenching have a certain hardness and qualified metallographic structure, which can prevent deformation and cracking of parts.

High flash point and flash point

When quenching, the temperature of the oil will rise instantaneously. If the flash point and ignition point of the oil are low, a fire may occur. Therefore quenching oil should have a higher flash point and ignition point. Usually the flash point should be 60-80 ° C higher than the oil temperature.

Good thermal oxidation stability

Quenching oil is used for a long time under the harsh conditions of high temperature and continuous operation. It requires oil to have good anti-oxidation, anti-thermal decomposition and anti-aging properties to ensure the cooling performance and service life of the oil.

Low viscosity

The viscosity of the oil has a certain relationship with its adhesion, carrying loss and cooling performance. Under the premise of ensuring the cooling performance and flash point of the oil, the viscosity of the oil should be as small as possible, which can reduce the carrying loss and facilitate the cleaning of the workpiece.

Low moisture content

Excessive moisture in the oil will affect the heat treatment quality of the parts, causing soft spots, quenching or deformation of the parts, and may also cause oil splashes and accidents. Therefore, it is generally prescribed that the water content in the quenching oil does not exceed 0.05%.

Other features

In addition to the above characteristics, the quenching oil should also be non-toxic, odorless, easy to handle, environmentally friendly, and brighten the surface of the workpiece after quenching.
